You thrust your plushie into his arms and snuck around to the other side of the stand. He nodded, but you could see the worry in his eyes. You both stood frozen for a moment, and then you peaked out from behind the stand. “Alexei!” You hissed, then pointed at the man–Alexei’s eyes widened in horror–and rushed behind the carnival stand. When you opened your eyes again, you caught sight of a person in the crowd, wearing all black and stalking toward you. You could feel Alexei’s grin against your lips. You stammered out a “thank you,” then smiled and gave him another kiss, this one on the lips. He turned to you, eyes shining in the low light, and with an air of total conviction, gifted you his plushie. You jumped and cheered along with the audience, giving Alexei a big kiss on the cheek as he threw his hands up and laughed. The children all whooped as he made another attempt, hissing when he missed but then jumping and clapping as he managed to pop one of the balloons. You patted his shoulder sympathetically, and you were about to offer to try for him when you saw the determination in his eyes.Ī small crowd had gathered around you two. You cheered for him every time he got close, but it didn’t seem like he would win. Alexei thanked you, suddenly bashful, but his shyness disappeared as he set to work. Apparently, what had caught his eye was the stuffed woodpecker hanging behind the counter. You grinned as Alexei pulled you over to the stand. He pointed at one of the carnival games with wide eyes, yanked your arm up with his own, and you chuckled.Īin’t it warming you, the world goin’ up in flames?Īin’t it the life of you, you’re lighting up the place?Īin’t it a waste it watch the throwing of the shade? That is, until Alexei’s grip on your hand tightened unexpectedly. You shot him an annoyed look but kept walking. “Are you two done making goo goo eyes in public?”
You gave him a small smile, one he returned. He frowned at the black tattoo, tracing over the 001 with his thumb. You couldn’t have been happier for the break from the violence that had plagued you for days.Īs he swung your arm around, your sleeve shifted up, revealing the tattoo on your wrist. His eyes darted around the fair, trying to take everything in at once. Alexei swung his hand in yours as he walked. You glanced over at him, a bit surprised, but smiled and laced your fingers together. The fair was a yearly tradition you expected to find all of the carnival rides and games, but Alexei made you slow down and appreciate the fair for what it was.Īs you were gazing out at the lights, Alexei’s hand found yours. You were pretty sure they played a few songs that had been around since your first trip to the fair, many years ago. You had long since grown used to the fair’s neon signs and energetic crowds, but he was making you see the event in a whole new light. You chuckled as you watched Alexei taking in the scenery.
