I was planning on heading south from Monterey to overnight in San Simeon on June 16th. *** Just an FYI: Highway 1 is closed 63 miles south of Carmel, so you won't be able to drive through Big Sur to Pismo Beach unless you take the detour over the mountains via Nacimiento-Fergusson Road over to Highway 101 t continue your drive south. Park there, walk out toward the ocean cliffs and look for the stairs leading down to a small beach. The road will rise sharply and you'll see other cars parked at the crest of that hill. You will soon enter the park's entrance and you'll drive a few miles until you reach a small cove. Continue on Los Osos Valley Road until it turns southward and becomes Pecho Road. The road will take you through some open space before you enter the town of Los Osos. You can access the park via Los Osos Valley west from Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo. If you have suggestions, I would love specific locales, like where to park. I will be starting at Half Moon Bay the first afternoon and ending my trip around Pismo Beach, to the south. I know that tide pools are good within Point Lobos and at Asilomar State Beach, within Pacific Grove - after scouring this forum. I will be spending nine days driving along the Central CA coast, spending most of my time in state parks with my camera, looking for good landscape and nature photos.
